BBC’s reporting that a Llyod’s customer had a request to change his password to “Llyod’s is pants” denied. Actually, he did manage to change it, and one of their employees changed it back to “no it’s not”. Absolutely hillarious stuff.
The part that worries me is the fact that Llyods store passwords in recoverable clear text form. This is really dangerous, as they allow passwords to be read by prying eyes. The easy (and most often right) way to store passwords is to use one of the many one way hashes. Had they stored it in a better form, this whole PR disaster could have been averted. Llyods, what were you thinking ?!
